An illusion, a mirage, a reality: Paintings of 2000's - Mariestella Colon Astacio

This series features female figures that are drawn with a minimal palette and style. The gesture in the drawing is narrowed to a single line that visually intertwines with the sewn copper wire's shadow giving movement and a 3-dimensional aspect to the 2-dimensional artwork.

Here I developed a key recurring theme of my work that broadly explores ideas of women’s bodies, fertility, ovaries, cell systems, and the possibilities inherent in them.
